Weekly Update – May 5, 2020

Cinco de Mayo falling on a Taco Tuesday, huh? Hey, I recognize a sign from the universe I should have Tex-Mex for dinner, so who am I to say no?

I am currently in one of my least favorite phases of the novel creation process: the “holding pattern.” This is when a project is this close to being ready for release, I just need one of my team to finish up their work first before I can finalize things. Right now, The Adventures of Strongarm & Lightfoot – Sworded Affairs is waiting on my editor to finish her final pass, and my narrator for the audiobook version of Blades of Glory is working on her final round of corrections.

I have stuff to keep me busy in the meantime, but I’m itching to release these projects onto the reading (and listening) public.

In other news, if you missed last Tuesday’s Superhero Stories panel from Quarancon 2020, a virtual pop culture convention, you can watch the whole thing here!

Some of the same folks on that panel are working on lining up similar panel discussions specifically on superhero fiction, so I’ll let you know when that’s locked and loaded.

Finally, I’m taking part in a group promotion later this month, during which Action Figures – Issue One: Secret Origins will be available for the Kindle for 99 cents.

If you still haven’t read the book that started it all, now’s your chance to get it for a great price — along with many other excellent superhero novels!

Cover art reveal time! Behold, the finished front cover art for the next Adventures of Strongarm & Lightfoot novel, Sworded Affairs! Thanks as always to my awesome cover artist, Tricia Lupien!

I’m still waiting for my editor’s notes, but once I get those, it should only take a few weeks to do the final draft and get this baby ready for release, so stay tuned.

And what’s the story about? Here’s the draft back cover text:

When Derek Strongarm, Felix Lightfoot, and their friends are hired to transport a powerful and potentially dangerous magical artifact, they can’t help but foresee disaster ahead. They have a rather bad track record, after all. Why should this job prove easier than any other?

It doesn’t.

Their pessimism is rewarded in spades when they become trapped for the winter in Além, a fortified city under siege by howlers — savage beasts living in the surrounding forest and hungry for human flesh. Unhappy with the prospect of getting eaten alive by the ravenous monsters, the company offers its services to the city guard and its commander, Briana Dohnington, to help safeguard Além.

When Erika finds an unexpected source of warmth in the arms of Commander Dohnington — much to the dismay of her brother, Lord Gregor Dohnington — she winds up in the middle of a political scandal that could throw Além into chaos for generations to come.

But that proves the least of Erika’s worries when the howlers come knocking on the city’s front gate in search of a hot meal — and the people of Além are on the menu.

The Adventures of Strongarm & Lightfoot – Sworded Affairs is the fourth book in the award-winning* fantasy series by Michael C. Bailey (Action Figures, Well-Behaved Women). Get ready for another rollicking tale filled with action, drama, humor, love, sex, violence, magic, monsters, intrigue, betrayal, more sex, more violence, and snow. Lots of snow.

In other news, today is the final day of Quarancon 2020, a virtual pop culture convention for those craving a con fix from the safety of their homes, and I’ll be sitting on the Superhero Stories discussion panel, moderated by my fellow superhero fiction author and general cool person Trish Heinrich.

The discussion begins at 6 PM Eastern Standard Time and you can watch it here!

Weekly Update – April 21, 2020

Cover art reveal time!

The “first draft” of the audiobook version of The Adventures of Strongarm & Lightfoot – Blades of Glory: by Heather Auden is all done, so now it’s a matter of doing the pickups, conducting my final review, and pulling the trigger. The final processing usually takes a while, so look for this on Audible in early May.

In other cool news, I’ll be participating in the upcoming Quarancon 2020, a virtual pop culture convention for those craving a con fix from the safety of their homes. I’ll be sitting on the Superhero Stories discussion panel, moderated by my fellow superhero fiction author and general cool person Trish Heinrich. The panel is scheduled for April 28, time TBA, so stay on top of the website for details on how to sit on on the discussion.
