The new bookmarks have arrived!

I’ll be making these available at my upcoming appearances, but I will mail one to you, for free, and all you have to do is ask for one.

No, that’s not exactly true; you have to work for it a little. Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Click the “Contact Mike” tab at the top of the page
  2. Send me a mailing address
  3. Include a link to a review you’ve written about any of the Action Figures books on Amazon and/or Goodreads

And that’s it!

I’ll be returning from vacation on Friday, so get your request in now and I’ll put the first round in the mail on Monday.

Giving Stuff Away!

Progress on Action Figures – Issue Five: Team-Ups is proceeding apace, with three of my five test readers having reported in with their feedback. I’m hoping the last two will get back to me before my wife and I leave for our anniversary getaway to Quebec so I can button up the next draft and ship it out to my editor. We’ll see!

In the meantime, I want to let everyone know that the Indie Superhero StoryBundle will be available for nine more days — which is also how many days I have left to give out three codes for all eight e-books for free! This offer is available only to people who have not yet read my book, so if you fit that description — or you’re a fan who knows someone who would like to check my book out — use the Contact Mike form to drop me a line.

Speaking of those of you who have already read my books, I have something for you too.

My cover artists Tricia is working on a new project for me: official Action Figures bookmarks, which I’ll give away at signings. These will replace my old postcard-style promo materials with something people might find more attractive and useful. Take a peek at the rough she sent me last week…

Would you like me to send you a free bookmark when they’re ready? Here’s what you’ll need to do: contact me and give me your mailing address, and — and this is key! — a link to a review of any of my books that you’ve posted to Amazon or Goodreads (or both!).

Haven’t posted a review yet? Well, now’s a great time to rectify that situation, and if you need some help crafting a review, go read this post that shows you just how easy it is.

StoryBundle Giveaway!

Hey everyone! Looks like the Indie Superhero StoryBundle offer I’m part of is selling quite well in its opening days. Woo! The eight authors will be participating in an online Q&A session via the StoryBundle Facebook page, so if you’re interested in participating, go to the official event page for details.

In the coming days I’ll be posting some quickie interviews with some of my fellow SB authors, but today I’m conducting a special giveaway. I have five — FIVE codes to give away that will get you all eight e-books for FREE. Can I capitalize these important points any more?

But what I am looking for are five recipients who have not yet read Action Figures – Issue One: Secret OriginsI’d like to draw in some new readers, so I’m asking my readers to nominate someone to receive this bundle. If you have a friend or family member who would like these books, please share this post and let them know what’s going on.

This next section is for those of you who were pointed to this site, so the rest of you can stop reading.

Hi, new person! You’re here because a current fan of my series thought you might like to check it out, along with seven other superhero e-books for the low low cost of nothing. Here’s the deal: using the Contact Mike link at the top of the page, send me a message asking for a code. I only have five, so it’s first come, first served. Tell me who sent you so I can thank him or her appropriately, and I’ll e-mail you a code that will get you the eight book e-bundle. They’re available in EPUB and MOBI formats, so they should work with any e-reader or e-reader app.

Thanks for stopping by, and hope you enjoy the books!

Want A Free Signed Copy Of Book Three?

Thought that might get your attention.

Here’s the deal: the big push leading up to the release of Action Figures – Issue Three: Pasts Imperfect begins this week, starting with tomorrow’s three-day $1.99 sale on the Kindle edition of Action Figures – Issue One: Secret Origins. Next week Action Figures – Issue Two: Black Magic Women will go on-sale, and then book three hits Kindle on September 27 (and you can pre-order that right now).

I’ve decided to further goose the offerings with a special giveaway offer. Now, read the following bit closely, because there are conditions…Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00009]

This contest is open to people who:

  • Read Secret Origins and/or Black Magic Women;
  • Liked the book(s); and
  • Has not yet left a review on Amazon.com or Goodreads

Here’s all you have to do: leave a review, and e-mail the link to your review to mikeatinnsmouthlook@gmail.com (or use the contact form on this site to send the link). The prize is a signed copy of book three!

I’m not going to give away just one signed copy, however; I plan to give away one signed copy for every ten reviews I receive. Winners will be chosen at random from the entries received. I’d love to have at least 100 entries so I can roll my ridiculous d100 to pick winners, because I’m a dork like that.

I suppose some of you have some questions. I’ll answer them here.

What if I’ve already left a review?

Then share this blog post via your favorite social media outlet and help spread the word. Share it, get a screencap of your share, and e-mail that to me as a JPEG. I’ll consider that one entry, as if it were a review, for calculating the number of books I give away.

Why is it only open to people who liked the books?

Well, I don’t understand why someone who didn’t like them would want the next book, but frankly, part of the goal here is to encourage people to leave positive reviews — honestly positive reviews. I’ve sold a lot of copies, but only a tiny percentage of buyers have bothered to leave a review, and reviews are important to independent authors, hence this little incentive. If you didn’t like the books, please don’t bother to enter the contest.

What if I’m not comfortable writing reviews?

Got you covered. Go read this post, which provides some handy hints for writing reviews, then go give it a try. The quality of the review does NOT affect your chances of winning a copy. A star rating and a sincere sentence or two is good enough for me.

The Royalties Treatment

It’s tax day today!

In a little while, my wife and I will be heading out to see our accountant at Sadler Financial (an excellent firm that is very knowledgeable when it comes to small businesses and individuals working in any artistic field, FYI), and I know that might not sound all that exciting, it’s something of a landmark day for me. This will be the first time I get to present to Todd, our accountant, my paperwork detailing my financial gains (and expenses) as an independent author.

Todd won’t have any huge numbers to crunch, sadly, but the fact that I now have to include in my taxes what I earn as an author is pretty damned thrilling to me.

I’m trusting that, with the pending release of Action Figures – Issue Two: Black Magic Women in March (or so), next year’s taxes will be more involved, because the numbers will be larger.

I plan to do more than simply think positively, however. To wind up interest in book two, I am planning to do — drumroll please — a free giveaway of the Kindle version of Action Figures – Issue One: Secret Origins!

Here’s the deal, and it’s very simple: the Kindle edition will be free from Monday, March 24 through Friday, March 28, so if you know of anyone who might enjoy the book, let them know!
