Sharing The Love: Little Girls Are Better At Designing Superheroes Than You

I stumbled across this on Tumblr, and it’s too good not to share.

It’s an art project called Little Girls Are Better At Designing Superheroes Than You, by Alex Law, who uses pictures of little girls in their homemade superhero costumes as inspiration for his interpretations of those costumes.

Some examples from artist Alex Law's "Little Girls Are Better..." project.

“Kids are more impressionable than you, but kids can also be less restricted by cultural gender norms than you. Kids are more creative than you, and they’re better at making superheroes than you,” Alex wrote on his Tumblr page for his creations, and when you look at his illustrations, and the young models, it’s hard to dispute him.

My reasons for digging this are probably obvious, but you should dig it too, because there are a lot of positive messages within this art project. People are sometimes too quick to tell little girls what they “should” and “shouldn’t” like, what’s “proper” for them to love based on their gender, so Alex deserves a lot of credit for embracing and empowering these geek girls.
